Do we need summer vacations? Part #1

I’ve decided to do this first today, mostly because it felt really nice to have this taken care of yesterday afternoon… Besides, I’ve thought of a question that I would really like to answer. And that question is this, is there some kind of phycological reason that most everyone takes a summer vacation, and feels cheated if we don’t get to take one? I’m really not sure what my family is going to be doing this summer. But I’m hoping to have at least one real vacation this summer.

Starting your own business is a lot of work, and I’m trying to keep to pretty regular hours, working on my business as much as I can each day, even when I don’t feel like it. And I am seeing some growth. But I’m feeling pretty tired by the end of each week. Looking on the internet, taking a break from your work renews your energy levels and gives you fresh perspective.. Personally I almost never work on Sundays, Saturdays it just depends on going on whether I’ll work or not. Next weekend, we are going to be celebrating my sister’s birthday, and I am not sure whether I am going to work half a day or not at all. I’m looking forward to that mini break.

However, what this article is saying is taking Fridays off is not the same thing. This is saying that you need at least a week of vacation to completely recharge. This also says that you should not check e-mail or take business calls while you are on your vacation. This vacation is a time to reconnect with your family and relax.

I think we are going to be coming back to this tomorrow.. I would love to hear your thoughts.
