Why I do what I do

Sometimes you just need to get back to the basics. That is true for individuals and families. And that is also true for families.. I’ve mentioned that I’m doing some training on Facebook, and going through that has made my think about why I do what I do.

Family has always been important to me. I’ve always been one to get excited when I knew we were about to visit our extended family, or anyone we don’t get to see every day. I miss having siblings around to do things with.

But it’s more than just me loving my owns family. I’ve always been interested in families in general. I believe in traditional marriage, and so many families are breaking up these days that it’s heartbreaking.

Everyone is busy these days. A lot of families have both parents working. Some families have to do that in order to make ends meet. Other couples ave both parents working because they want to. They dreams outside their home, and to be clear, I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with working outside the home. And then our children are busy as well. They’re in school, and then they’re also in sports or are involve d in the arts.

So with everyone in the family busy, when when do they actually spend time together? Do everyone sit down for a meal together at Least once or twice a week? Are you part of each other’s lives, or are we too busy doing our own thing?

Going on vacations helps us get us out of our day to day busy schedules and makes us spend time together. Vacations also help us make good memories.

I would love to know your thoughts about any of this. I would also love to hear any questions you might have.

Is Mexico safe?

People-In-Cuba-720x479

I have had some other things I wanted to get done today today. I’m trying to figure out a place that will pay me to write travel advice. I want to do this to bring in some money for the business, and hopefully get some more clients. Figuring out when to look at writing jobs is hard. I want to get through everything I feel like I need to do each day, but then I often feel too tired to really concentrate on figuring out the writing jobs. I’m not sure what to do, but I am going to try to figure something out.

One of my sisters is going to Mexico next month… Of anyone in our family, she’s the one who likes to live on the dangerous side. As a travel agent, what I’ve heard is that as long as you’ll stay on the resorts, you should be just fine. But the United States has issued a new travel warning in light of recent events, so let’s take a look at what they’re saying now..

Basically there are certain parts of Mexico that have become unsafe because of violence. People have been asked to stay away from those areas, unless you absolutely have to go there. The big problem is that there have been battles between gangs themselves, and fighting between gangs and the Mexican government. At this point, United States’ citizens are not targeted, but of course you never know what could happen, and it’s wisest not to take that chance.

I would love to know your thoughts about any of this or any questions you might have.

Mexico may have gotten a bad rap

People-In-Cuba-720x479

I’m kind of in the middle of a big project.. I know I love being a travel agent, but I also love to write. I think that’s kind of obvious. I’m getting more serious about getting articles published. My goal is to have several on going gigs by the end of the year. I’m working on my first one of these. It’s exciting and nerve wracking at once. My hope is that writing these articles will help get word out about my business a lot better.. But first…

Mexico has kind of gotten mixed reviews when it comes to travel. On the one hand, it is a beautiful place. There are also a lot of truly great resorts. But there is a drug problem down there. And this is kind of a cycle. People don’t have a lot of money, then they get mixed up with the wrong crowd and get involved in selling drugs. And when you’re selling drugs, you are going to be working with people who are not in their right minds, and that can lead to all kinds of problems. But this problem can come up anywhere, not just Mexico.

Honestly, for the most part, Mexico is pretty safe. It is usually wisest to either stay at your resort, or go on tours with groups. But the same can be said for anywhere you aren’t familiar with, especially if you don’t know the language. Wandering away by yourself is just Not smart.

Mexico is a great place to go if you are wanting to do an all inclusive. You are probably not going to find a better price on a resort.. And a lot of resorts are going to have multiple properties where when and if you get tired of your own resort, you can go to other properties.

I would love to know your thoughts about this or any questions you might have.. Answering questions about travel is part of what travel agents are supposed to be doing. Just let me know.

America: all work and no play

America is not taking vacation time. 2016 we took even less vacation time than we did in 2015.. Most manageers agree that their workers need time off.. Without vacation time our bodies do not get the rest that we need. We also do not take the time to really invest in our families like we should.

Most managers agree that we need to take more time off. But a lot of them do not take vacation time off themselves. Some fear the mountain of work that they will have after their vacation. Other people are worried that they may return to work only to find that they have no job.

Still others think that vacations themselves can be stressful. And sure, vacations can be hard if you put pressure on yourself. If Some reasons a vacation could be stressful are.

  • You set yourself a very tight schedule and then nothing turns out the way you hope.
  • You just have high expectations of the vacation and then experience problems.
  • Also going on vacations with people you don’t like or don’t know well can turn into a mess.

People also feel guilty when they do take time off.. And maybe that’s part of why I’m doing this now.. I have some time where I can do this. And I’m not sure at all what the rest of this week is going to look like. I’m just going to have to play this week by ear.

More advice for couples

630x355 (5)

I’ve shared before, and will no doubt share again, that it is my hope to work with families and help them reconnect through traveling together in this business of mine. As I read these business books, that is the why of this business.. So, in light of that, we are going to look at more advice for couples looking to reconnect.

  • Everyone should try to work out three or four times a week. Why not pick a sport or exercise activity, and try to do that at least a couple of times a week together? This will both help you get some more together, it will also keep you accountable to do your workouts.
  • Sometimes it helps to remember what first brought you together. Some couples love to go back to the places where they had their first dates. Other people are happy to sit in their kitchens and remember the first times, the places, and maybe even the friends that helped bring them together.
  • Start a project you can work on together. You do not have to start with anything big or elaborate. Start small and work your way up to bigger projects if you’d like.
  • And yes, of course, I am going to bring this one up. Plan a trip for just the two of you to take together. Is there a place you’ve always going together? Do you want to drop the kids off at your parents or a friend’s and just go wherever the wind blows for a weekend?

I would love to know your ideas on reconnecting with your spouse. Have you tried anything that I’ve mentioned yesterday or today? Write and tell me how it went.

Reconnecting as a couple

Sadly, my internet troubles are not over. But we are going to figure this out.. My hope is that we figure it out sooner rather than later.. I’ve been reading business books while I’ve not had internet, and I’m getting some more ideas of what to do..

But is it time to do a romantic getaway.. Have you just gotten too caught up in the day to day of life to really enjoy one another. Here are some ideas you might want to try even at home.

  •  Pick a new hobby to take up together. It could be ballroom dancing, scuba diving, hiking or anything that interests the two of you. This is just a way to spend some more time together.
  • Take some time to sit down together and make a bucket list of things you both would like to do together. Do you want to take a trip together? Do you want to do a date night every week or every other week?

Forget the question of which one of you should cook, cook together. A lot of people are getting into healthy cooking. Cooking together is going to take time, cooking is going to be better for you, and it is usually going to be less expensive.

Do you have other ideas for spending couples time together? Please let me know.

Working on vacations

630x355 (11)

I am on the internet at home again. I don’t know what we did, but I’m thanking the Lord that I have internet and praying that it lasts.. I also want to let you know that starting this next week, I am going to be in and out. We have several visits coming up with family and friends. I am going to just feel out if and how much I should work during these visits. I know that the holidays will be here before we know it.. But let me get started on this so that I can get to some other things.

Let’s go on and talk some more about working while on vacation. Should we mix business and pleasure, or should we not?. And let me say something about where I am on this question. I’m disabled, and though this is getting less frequent, sometimes I have to go with my Mom to get the care we have to have. I usually do not work when we are making quick trips to see family or friends. I will take off holiday time when my family gathers to celebrate. When we make longer visits, I’ll usually work a couple of hours each day to do the necessary things. And if I know there are certain parts of the day that are going to be quieter, I will use that time to work.

But anyway, back to you.. If you can do work ahead of your vacation, do that. Putting in some extra time at work may help you feel better about taking some time away. But when you do leave work especially for the last time before your vacation, please be sure to leave work behind. And don’t think about work the entire time you are gone. That will not give you a true break.

Let the people you work for and with know that you are traveling. Set up your out-of-office message on your computer and your phone. Ask coworkers to help you out.

If you are working while traveling, you might want to consider having a set time to work, and either get up earlier or stay up later to get things done. Sometimes you can also work on public transportation.

I would love to know any ideas you might have about all of this. Please let me know.

Fall leaf tours #2

images

I have things to do tonight, so I am going to go on and get started on work stuff. I’m loving being a travel agent and doing everything that I’m doing.

Let’s get back to our discussion of Fall Foilage tours. Tauck, a tour group I’m seeing in the travel news a lot, does a twelve day fall tour of New England. People going on this trip are going to get a good look at the fall colors. But in addition, they are going to see a lot of historical sites as well. The starting point of this trip is Boston, which is of course where the United States’ revolution got started. People on this tour will also see parts of Vermont and New Hampshire.

Globus, another touring company, does a nine day tour of the New England area as well. This tour will also begin and end in Boston. It looks like anyone going on this tour will see roughly the same sites in slightly less time. And several other touring companies do roughly the same thing. If you’re interested in doing one of these trips, please be sure to let me know. I’m sure I’ll be help you determine the right trip for you.

This is a little shorter than I usually like… I have noticed that this blog is starting to get some more followers. For that, I thank you. I would love to hear from you, either on this blog itself, or my e-mail at sarah@familytripsinc.com. I would also love it if we could e-mail back and forth so that I might get a travelers’ profile on you. Please let me know if you are interested.

New ideas

I must say that even just taking Friday and Saturday off this past week [I work on Saturdays sometimes], has given me several ideas of marketing strategies that I’d like to try. And I’m thankful for that, because I was kind of discouraged last week. I just wasn’t sure what to do to grow my business… My hope is that my family is going to take a real week-long vacation at some point this summer, but in the meantime I have things I would really like to get done.

The sister I went to see is starting a little business of her own, but is mostly being a good wife and mother. This business is just a hobby for her, but talking to her as well as some friends of hers have given me some ideas.

I may need to try to explain some things about myself. I think by now most of you know that I am disabled. My disability is pretty severe in that I am unable to do much for myself. So I end up spending a lot of time in my room on my computer. And I both like it and don’t like it at the same time. I like it in that I have lots of things to do on my computer that I enjoy doing. But especially on the weekends, it is nice to do things with friends… Anyway, my idea is to try to connect with other businesses on Facebook and things like that and try to get more clients that way. I’m also considering writing a letter about my business and sending it to everyone I know.

I really wanted to make sure I got this done today. And now I need to get through my e-mail.. Writing this blog and working through my e-mail each day is what I consider foundational to my business.
