More places to consider for next Christmas

I have several things I want to get to today. We are going to a Christmas party tonight, and by then I want to be finished with computer stuff for a couple of days. I am going to put up my Christmas letter soon. o let’s get started.

  • Do you want to go somewhere your children will love? Try Tuscany, Italy. They’ll have a Santa village featuring a castle. They have some really nice places to stay. And it’s Italy, so children and adults alike should enjoy the food.
  • I love Christmas and all the celebrations, but I’m not a big fan of snow. It is beautiful for sure, but I don’t like being cold. If you feel the same way, you might want to try the beautiful island of Malta. Here you will have the opportunity to celebrate the deeper meaning of Christmas. There will be a lot of midnight masses you can choose from. There will also be caroling to take part in.
  • I am going to get a little sentimental for a minute. My grandparents lived in Virginia, and we used to go every Christmas. Going to the Greenbrier was something I’ve heard a lot about, I think some of my family may have gone some years to play in the snow. I always stayed with my Grandma. Anyway, the Greenbrier is a really nice place in west Virginia, and they do a lot for the holidays.

I am going to put up my Christmas letter soon. And after that I’m not sure when I might be on again. I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day Christmas.

Where to spend Christmas 2018

The most wonderful time of the year is once again upon us. My plan is to work some tomorrow, and then from there it is going to get a little spotty from there. I’m not going to work Christmas Day for sure, and don’t really know about the rest of the week. The whole month of January is kind of up in the air because we have coming in at different times and things like that.

A lot of you are already starting your Christmas vacation as I write this. But I wanted to do something festive anyway. So let’s look at some places you might want to go next year.

  • I don’t know about you, but our family loves Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, it isn’t really the Christmas season until we’ve watched that movie. [And the only real movie is the one with George C Scott in it.] Why not try to go to London next Christmas? A lot of hotels are going to provide you with some nice meals on Christmas Day as well as New Year’s. You are going to love their Christmas markets. And I’m sure there are some nice plays and musical productions that will take place around this festive time of year.
  •  Are you tired of not having a white Christmas? You should try to go to Finland next year. Everything is bound to be covered with snow there. There is a city there that will make you think you’ve somehow arrived in the North Pole itself. You will definitely see some reindeer, and there will also be elves. Who knows? You might also see a big man with a big beard in a red suit, though they do say he’s kind of busy this time of year.
  • Is The Nutcracker a tradition in your home? You might want to consider St Petersburg next Christmas. There is nothing more traditional than going to a ballet in Russia. Again, you are sure to see snow here.

Let’s get back to this tomorrow. I would love to know your thoughts.

Hotels can help you get in the mood for Christmas

Thanksgiving has come and gone, and now it’s time to really start getting ready for Christmas. And yes, I know that most stores and retailers start putting out their Christmas stuff out right after Halloween.. Let’s look at some specific things hotels are doing.

  • At Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa Casino they are baking up one of the largest gingerbread Houses. Guests are going to be able to walk through this masterpiece. You will be able to see this from late November to early January.
  • The Liberty, which is a luxury in @Boston is going to have upside down Christmas trees. Unfortunately, the article I’m reading does not say anything about why they are doing upside down trees. I think that is really weird.
  • Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center is bringing back its tradition of a indoor ice winter wonderland. This year, their theme will be Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer more than two million pounds of ice will be used for this display.
  • Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina will allow you to have breakfast with Santa. They will have one of the elves tuck you in bed. You will also be able to enjoy milk and cookies and storytime.

Okay, I have to be honest. I kept hoping that there would be something about the true meaning of Christmas… But maybe that’s a little awkward for hotels, since they ended up sending the Kings of kings to a barn to be born. I don’t know. I would love to know your thoughts on this.

Christmas cruises

I hope you had a really nice Thanksgiving. I know I did. But I’m not really sad to be back to work, and part of that might be because I know Christmas is right around the corner.. I’m not sad, but I’m a little overwhelmed with everything I want to do. Anyway, let’s get started.

The travel industry is huge, and after being a travel agent two and a half years, I’m definitely still learning. One of the things I haven’t known until this morning was that a lot of people like to go on cruises for their Christmas vacation. I can see this being good for those that are by themselves or part of a small family. Maybe you’d like to gather some of your close friends and go on a cruise. I can also see this being great for larger families where everyone would everyone would rather not do the cooking or the cleaning that a big family gathering requires. So let’s look at a couple of cruises today.

You might want to consider going on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Everyone in your family can enjoy a nice holiday meal together. The kids will also enjoy visits with Santa, Christmas cookies, a Christmas parade, and other surprises along the way. There is one cruise that is going to be like this this. But if this year is too soon to plan, there is another very similar cruise being planned for next Christmas.

Holland America is also planning a Christmas voyage. You will be served delicious holiday meals, and they will also be serving Christmasy high tea. You will receive a visit from Santa on this ship as no well. And the ship’s crew is going to be singing you Christmas carols. And again something very similar is being planned for 2016 if you feel this year is just too soon. Please let me know if you are interested in something like this. I would love to help you.

A second day on adventures

untitled

Even without my e-mail, which I hope to figure out before much longer, I am finding other things I can be working on. So I am going to go on and get to this so I can get to some other things later on.
We are going to be returning to our adventure theme from yesterday. This one may seem a little odd, especially if you are trying to appease teenagers, but there are things that happen very early in the morning that happe
Another thing you might want to consider is walking to the different destinations you and your family would like to see in a city. Especially if your family lives in a small town, there is so much that goes on in a city. People play music on the streets. There are all kinds of street vendors selling food and other items. You may discover a out of the way restaurant that has a lot of local flavor.

Another thing I’d strongly recommend is use this time to get to know each other. Families are so busy these days with everything under the sun. Vacations may be the best time to have heart to heart with your children..

Even if you do end up at Grandma’s, doing some of these things are certainly not out of the question. Let me know your thoughts or any questions you might have.

Take an adventure together

I’m listening to Christmas music and am absolutely loving it. I must confess, I am something of a Christmas nut, I love everything about the holiday season… Well, maybe not Santa so much. But anyway… We’re here to discuss things related to travel.
So let’s say you have a couple of teenagers, and they’re complaining about “just going to the grandparents for the holidays”. Maybe it’s time for your family to make some traditions over Christmas… Ever watch those shows where people eat all these weird things? Maybe you and your family can take a food adventure together. Call around wherever you are going to go for the holidays and find a restaurant you haven’t tried, maybe even a cuisine you haven’t tried. Some restaurant will let you have cooking lessons in their restaurants. If your family has decided to go to Europe or anywhere out of the country for Christmas, you might want to consider taking a food class, or going on a food tour. Depending on your family, you might want to make a rule about each family member trying a bite of the different foods.
If your family is into zip lining, rock climbing, scuba diving, and things like that, you might want to try going to New Zealand for Christmas. This country is the perfect place to do all these things, and if your family wants to do something calmer one day, the Lord of the Rings movie series was also filmed here.. If you don’t want to go that far, Costa Rica is another great place to do adventurous stuff.
I would love to know your thoughts about any of this.

Christmas in Europe

630x355

We are home from a weekend trip, which was very nice and very much filled with time with friends. And we also had some time with my sisters which is nice and kind of made me even more excited about Thanksgiving than I already was.
In light of that, we are going to look at some Christmas traditions in Europe… Christmas in America has become very commercialized. I think that’s something we can all agree on. Christmas is a time to remember the one whose birthday it is. It is a time to rededicate our hearts and lives to Him. And I do love Christmas and all that comes with it, the music, the plays, the parties, and the times with family and friends. Sure, gifts are always nice, but that has never been the focus of my family’s celebration.. Apparently, Christmas celebration in Europe are more about family and friends, special food, and things like that.
Avanti, a partner of my host agency M Travel, has itineraries recommended for those that want to see Christmas in Europe. A four-day, three-night excursion is recommended. You will stay in Munich, Germany, and will be able to take day or evening trips to the different Christmas markets you want to see. I think you’ll be basically just with whoever you’re traveling with and not mixing with either other travelers or tour guides.
If you would rather be part of a tour group, Insight Vacations may have the perfect Christmas trip for you. Insight will also let you see different Christmas markets around Europe. And on these tours you will also get to meet some of the people making the Christmas delights. Please let me know if any of this inspires you to take a Christmaslized. Christmas in Gatlinburg #1

untitled

I must confess that I’m usually in a hurry to get this done. Sometimes, like today, I want to get on to other things. Other times, I’m tired and just want to get everything done.

My family is going to go to Tennessee to celebrate Christmas together this year. And I’ve been asked to kind of put together a list of fun things we might do together.. My parents have a house up there, and we’ve done Christmas there several years. A group of them goes skiing for a day. I know there is such a thing as wheelchair skiing, but that’s not my thing. I do not like the idea of falling at all. So that’s a day I usually stay at our place and read, watch movies and hang out with anyone that decides not to be part of the skiing expedition.

The Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area has a lot of shopping areas. They have everything from quaint little shops to the outlet malls. We’ve gone out to explore both. And honestly, what I enjoy most is being out and about with family, enjoying the fun and laughter of family times.

Ooh, Pigeon Forge has a light show for the holiday season. Our permanent home is near Callaway Gardens who also does a holiday light show, and we’ve gone to that before. So that is a possibility for one evening… I didn’t know this, but Gatlinburg has its own ball drop on New Year’s Eve. We ladies  have talked a little about going to New York, but that’s a dream that I’m not sure when will take place. The ball drop in Gatlinburg may be our alternative for this year.

I am going to look more into this tomorrow. Please let me know if you’re inspired to plan your family’s Christmas gathering in Tennessee.
