Places to go in the fall #1

it is Labor Day. Nearly everyone who isn’t in school already will start tomorrow. Summer is officially over, although technically autumn will not start for another twenty days or so. It is time to get back to our normal work-a-day routines.. But wait, you say, we didn’t really get a summer vacation, we were too busy, or maybe you just do not like crowds and want to take a vacation when no one else is around. Whichever the case, below are some destinations you might want to take a look at.

  • And the first one we are going to take a look at is Bald Head Island, North Carolina. If you are looking for a quiet beach, this is the perfect place to go. The 160 residents have agreed to not even have cars on the island. You will be free to swim, even as it gets cooler outside. There are also some great golf courses and places to watch birds.
  • I personally love reading about the Amish, and one of the large gathering places for the Amish is in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Do you want some real quiet? Go here. These people aren’t allowed to have cars, radios, tvs, or anything like that. They do sometimes run bed and breakfasts, and I can tell you that their food sounds scrumptious. This is a great place to shop for antiques, and to learn something of what farm life was like one hundred years ago.
  • Have you always wanted to go to Octoberfest, but aren’t quite sure you want to go all the way to Germany? Try going to Leavenworth, Washington.. This place is set up like a Bavarian village, and in October, you are going to get all the authentic cuisine and imported beer you want. This is a nice village to visit any time of the year.
  • Looking for beautiful fall leaves? Try Mackinac Island, Michigan. This is another place that will take you back in time. This place is especially known for its Victorian architecture, its beautiful fall foilage, and its fudge..
  • Mill Valley, California is near the great city of San Franciisco, and will attracts those that love great outdoors. This place has gorgeous mountains. You will also love the Red Wood. There are also some interesting shops and great restaurants.

Visiting the Amish

I had an awesome weekend. It was wonderful hanging out with my sisters, eating junk food, watching movies. But even with just one extra day off, I have so many projects I want to work on.

Reading novels is one of my favorite things to do when I’m tired of working. And I love reading about the Amish. To be Amish means you are living differently than most other Americans. Amish live in communities, they do not have electricity, their main means of communication is horse and buggy, and mostly they farm. From the novels I’ve read, they love to cook country cooking, and are never stingy when it comes to sweets. And just so you know, I didn’t add a picture because they do not like having photographs taken.

If going back to this kind of simple life appeals to you, want to visit Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Here you can take rides in their horse and buggies. There are Amish homes and farms you can take tours of so you can find out more about their way of life. You can visit their markets and buy anything from fine quilts to homemade baked goods and jellies. They have all kinds of ways you can sample their food. They even have a play that you can attend to find out more about their way of life.

Please let me know if you are interested in taking a trip like this. I would love to help you plan something like this.

Wanna see the Pope?

630x355

It’s Friday, and part of me keeps thinking of things I want to do, but part of me is kind of ready for some weekend fun too.. I’m not sure where the balance is, but I’ll figure it out. It’s time to get some things done.

My Grandpa died this past summer, as most of you know.. But what you may not know is that Grandpa was Catholic. I have also known a lot of other Catholics.. The Catholic church here is very active in our pro life group. And I also know that you don’t necessarily have to be Catholic in order to want to see the Pope. So here are some tips if you are making plans to see the Pope.

  • First, as you can imagine, security is going to be tight at the airport to these cities. If you are flying to one of these cities, you’ll want to plan on staying a couple of days before and a couple of days after.
  • Another way you can avoid some of the craziness is to travel by train instead of by airplane. Amtrak is making preparations for that by increasing the number of people they are going to be able to take to that area during that Time.
  • You will want to keep in mind that some people are looking to make money any way they can. Be very careful when you buy tickets. Some of these events are actually free.
  • And of course, since a lot of people are going to want to come to these events, prices for hotels and other accommodations are going to be higher than normal.

I’d love to hear about your trip if you do go to see the Pope.

More lesser known places to vacation

I have a confession to make.. My family has a couple of houses in other cities, and we used to go out of town at least once a month. I didn’t like it. I like getting into a routine and staying with it for a while… But we haven’t gone anywhere for longer than a weekend since Christmas, and I’m kind of getting excited about taking some time off.

Today let’s get back to lesser known vacation spots. First, let’s talk about Kiawah, South Carolina. This is an excellent place for golfers. It has been part of the PGA Tour several times. But this is also a beach town where people can enjoy normal beach activities. There are a lot of parks you can enjoy as well.

If you are from the northern part of our fair country and are looking for a quick getaway, you might want to try northern Pennsylvania. There are a lot of great state parks up that way. You might want to go to Niagara Falls while you are up that way. There is also a free amusement park in this area.

Do you want to do a different kind of vacation, you might want to go to Burlington, Vermont, home of the world’s tallest filing cabinet. There is a lake you can enjoy here, and the mountains are not far away. There are a lot of attractions here. Just ask the locals.. Let me know if you are interested in any of these places. I can help you book your hotel rooms or help you rent cars, things like that.
