Random news

Have you ever had things you wanted, and needed, to do, but you kept putting them off? Well, that’s been me. I kept doing the things that I had to do each day, thinking that I would get to the other projects. But then I would always be too tired to start on anything. Today I’ve started on the bigger projects first, and feel like I’ve gotten a lot done already.

Today let’s look at some random news stories that are effecting travel today.

  • First, Marriott has dropped its commission from the standard 10% to just 7%. Many travel agents are not happy bout it and are encouraging their guests to book other hotels. Personally I think that is kind of silly and may be trying to join Marriott soon.
  • Marriott is also buying a property in Vegas that has been closed since 2009. The plan is to fix this place up into a really nice resort. There will be entertainment and several restaurants right there on the property. Of course, you’ll also be on the Vegas strip.
  • A lot of resorts in Vegas are charging more on their resort fees, because they can and because it’s simply more money in their pockets. Part of the reason is, they’re upgrading their wifi. Many people are choosing to stay in hotels rather than these resorts.
  • I would love to hear your thoughts about any of this. Please let me know.

How to stay cheap in Vegas

I know I’ve mentioned this trip before, but one fall my family drove out west. There were seven of us children at that point, so we were always looking for inexpensive hotels and lodging. I know we stayed at a campground, and we also stayed with friends and family along the way.. Anyway, I do remember we spent one night in Vegas, and I know we got a pretty inexpensive om there.. I was seventeen or eighteen at that time… I’m wondering now if you could get better deals than you can these days.. A lot of the time, you are still going to be able to get a good deal on a room. Here are some tips that might help.

  • You will save a lot of money if you stay somewhere besides the strip. Even staying a few blocks away is going to save you about fifty percent. Stay in the inexpensive hotel chains or in hotels that have small casinos.
  • Book a stay in one of the hotels downtown if you don’t want want to be too far away from the action. Some of these hotels will have great deals for you. You can always find a taxi or other means of transportation if you have flown in.
  • Stay in off brand hotels. This is an especially good idea if you are going to just want a bed and a shower. True, you can never be sure what you’re getting, but it might be worth the experiment.
  • This might be the perfect time to book your reward nights . Book it early enough, and you won’t even have to use an exorbitant amount of points.

Have you been to Vegas? I would love to hear your stories.. Well, the ones you can tell online.

Changes in cruising in 2016

630x355 (9)

I have some ideas for the business that I want to try. But with us leaving tomorrow and not being sure how much I am going to be online, I am going to be starting working on these ideas starting next week.

Okay today we are going to be looking at changes in the cruising industry. We have talked about this before on this blog, but river cruising is becoming more and more popular. Viking is always growing, adding more ships and more itineraries. This is a great way to immerse yourself in the culture of a certain area. There are several other companies who are doing river cruises, but Viking is the leader without question.

You used to not be able to find a cruise to Asia. But this too is really growing in popularity. And you are going to find a mix of inexpensive and higher class cruiselines That will take you to this part of the world.

Australia is another destination that is really growing on travelers.. I know a couple of people who have gone or are going to Australia soon… I would love to hear your thoughts on any of these things.

Best places to take “working vacations”

I got up pretty early and ended up doing some personal things, but I’m still getting to work a little early, and I love it. I have several things I need to do. So let’s get started.

We’ve talked about working vacations on this blog before.. Something some people may not know about me is that I was homeschooled growing up. And I know one thing that everyone loved was that we could go on trips any time we wanted without missing too much school. Our family would work pretty ststeadily through out the schoolyear, and then we’d take a long summer break.. Sometimes Dad would have to go on business trips, and we’d go with him.. And I know more and more families are homeschooling for all kinds of reasons these days. So today, let’s look at some places your family could combine work and pleasure.

Vegas, which does have a lot to offer families, has wifi in most of their casinos. I know there are some great family resorts in the area that your family could enjoy together. Maybe your family can decide on the best time to work and do school, and then you can have the rest of the time to enjoy time together.

Los Cabos may be another place you can combine work and play. Yes , it was ravaged by a hurricane about a year ago, but they have rebuilt everything quickly. Most the hotels should have wifi. And when you need to take time to relax and unwind , you can take a scuba adventure or treat yourself to a spa session.

Let me know if any of this inspires you to take a working vacation. I would be more than happy to help you out.

Guys’ getaways?

I’ve kind of had one of those weekends where you know one season of your life is over and now you wonder what’s next. I have lots of personal questions right now, but I know I love my work and am glad to get back into all that I need to be doing.

People say you need to know your audience when you write, and I guess that’s especially true when you’re doing a blog. And in my mind, I mostly write to women who are raising families… Maybe you know your husband and a group of his friends have been working hard and a guys’ weekend would do them good. Maybe you need a weekend to do the kids’ school shopping inside a lot of input from your husband. Whatever it is, planning a guys getaway sounds like a good idea.

The first place you may want to consider sending them to is Vegas.. Wait a minute, I try to keep this blog very family friendly. Trust me when I say I’m not suggesting that you send your men away to do naughty things. However, Vegas does have a lot of inexpensive hotels and food options. And during the day, what is known as “The Strip” is pretty family friendly. The guys will also be able to go shooting in that area. They also have great golf which is perfect for the time of year where everything is starting to cool down.

We are going to get back to this tomorrow. Let me know if you have any suggestions on guys’ getaways of your own.

Kids in Vegas?

This past weekend was kind of crazy. But more on point for this blog, I’m starting to talk to several people about trips, which is kind of exciting. But while I’m waiting to hear back from people, I am going to get my other Work done.

When you think of Vegas, you probably think of “sin city”, and sayings like, “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,”. But what you may or may not know is that your hotel rooms, food, and things like that are subsidized by the gambling done there. So if you are looking for an inexpensive vacation, Vegas just might fit the bill. But what family friendly activities are there to do there? There are several amusement parks in the area. And that includes water parks. There are even rides that children can enjoy right on The Strip. You might want to stick to the daylight hours for The Strip though.

Is your child into crime shows or reading mysteries? Your family might enjoy CSI: The Experience where you will be able to work on simulated crime scenes together.. It’s a fun way to spend time together.. And of course, most places you will be staying will have great pools you can enjoy together.

Please let me know if your family is interested in going to Vegas together.

Paris in Macau?

I had a really nice weekend. Got some good work done on Saturday. And yesterday I was just pretty lazy, and then went over to see friends. But I need to get to work. Have several ideas of things I want to do today. Better get started.

It sounds like they are going to build a mini Paris in Macau. I must confess, I didn’t know where Macau was until I read this article, but it’s located in China. This is one of the top gambling destinations [another confession, I just picked an article that looked interesting, and am just trying to make that work]. China is cracking down onits gambling industry [which I see as a good things even if it does hurt the travel industry somewhat]. But anyway, Sanas ds is building its own Eifel Tower, having gotten permission from the Chinese government.

Let’s go on and look at something else since this is short.. Apparently, Las VegasĀ is setting new records for itself time and again. It came close to hitting forty million visitors in both 2012 and 2013, but finally reached that goal in 2014.

Today has turned out to be somewhat crazy. And I really need to get to some other things. Hopefully tomorrow will be.
