Some good cities to take a family vacation

630x355 (5)

I have several other things I would like to get to today. I still need to work on figuring out a host agency. Well actually, I think I’ve found the right one, I just need to join. I’m also wanting to get into this writing article project more.

First, let’s take a look at why taking a vacation in a city might be a wise idea. In cities things are usually pretty compact. You are likely going to be able to walk to a lot of different places from your hotel. Cities are also more likely to have public transportation. You are also going to have some fun options when it comes to what to eat. So now let’s look at some individual cities.

  • I know I’ve brought this one up before, but the nation’s capital is a great place to take a vacation. My favorite aunt used to live near D.C., so I’ve been there a few times. They have the National Zoo there, which is nice whether you love animals or just want to get out and do something with people you love. They have the Smithsonian which is a whole system of museums you can explore.
  • Looking for a city that will have lots on the Revolutionary war? Why not try Boston? This is where a lot of the Revolution took place. They will also have an excellent aquarium as well as some nice parks.
  • Think Vegas is just for adults? Think again. There is a lot of amusement park stuff on the famous Strip. There will also be some nice parks and museums for your enjoyment.

Wanna see the cherry blossoms?

f you’re wanting to go see our nation’s capitol, now would be a great time to go because it is beautiful with cherry blossoms. Today lets look at some hotel packages that are available.

  • First, let’s look at the Mandarin Oriental Washington D.C. This place has been recently renovated and has been designed for comfort and rejuvenation. You are going to be on the water at this place. They have a package that will be available through May twenty-fourth, and you can get this whenever you stay more than two nights. You will get a hanami style picnic for two. You will also get breakfast each day of your stay.
  • The Rosewood Washington D.C. is located in Georgetown, and again, this place is designed for relaxation after your days of touring. You are going to get breakfast for two each morning. You will also get a tour of the city, and a kite-flying kit.
  • If you stays at the Hay-Adams, you will be staying near 1600 Pennsylvania avenue, which is where the first family lives. Here you will get a nice pastry. You will get a full American breakfast each morning of your stay. You will have to stay three nights to get this package.

I would love to know your thoughts on any of these. Let me know your questions.

Hotels you might want to visit

I think I’ve just about caught up on e-mail from being gone for two weeks. I need to work on the article I’m trying to revive. And I do want to post an in depth report about my trip.. There are several things I need to do. So let’s do this.

Winter is a great time to take a vacation for a lot of reasons. Most people aren’t even thinking about taking vacations, but hotels and other travel suppliers are still wanting to keep even somewhat busy, so they are going to offer some of their best deals in winter. Today we are going to look at some deals.

  • Hotel Alyeska is in Girdwood, Alaska, and because it is by the sea, it is going to have some milder weather. This is a smaller ski resort where a lot of Alaskans go, but hardly anyone else has heard of it yet. You are going to get fantastic deals if you go between the weekends. You’ll even get free lift tickets.
  • San Francisco is a city that is mostly dead in winter. Still interested in visiting? Maybe you want to do a romantic getaway there, or a girls’ weekend. Yes, here you can get good deal even in winter. The Palace Hotel is an old property , but has recently gone through a multi million dollar refurbishment. This place sounds classy. You can sit and listen to a piano player. This hotel is going to be pretty central to everything you’ll want to see in the city.
  • Or you may want to try our nation’s capitol. D.C. clears out on weekends. So you are going to have the monuments, The Smithsonian museums, and all the city’s attractions to yourself. The Ritz-Carlton Washington has the deals, and will also give you the royal treatment.

Please let me know if you are interested in taking a trip to any of these places. I would love to help you plan something.

What’s new in D.C.

I’m looking forward to taking off tomorrow, going to church, spending some time with friends.. I’m still trying to figure a good fit for the articles I’ve I’ve been working on.The articles are pretty much articles on travel advice longer than my posts here. If anyone knows any online magazines that might be a good fit, please let me know.

Okay, let’s talk about Washington D.C. and what’s new there.. They’re always making changes to the Smithsonian museums. And I’m not just talking about changing out exhibits either. They’re adding on to the museums.. They’re reopening the National Gallery of Art, after working on its expansion. They have also done some work on the National Museum of afraid American History and culture.

The people of D.C. have turned what was once a troubled neighborhood into a chic and modern hotspot. You can come out and enjoy a game of cornhole. There are five new restaurants in what used to be a lumber shed. This used to be a place you wouldn’t want to be after dark, but now it is a safe place.

There is a ne restaurant in D.C. called Compass Rose. This sounds like a place you would want to go if your goal is to have a nice relaxing meal with friends. They will serve mostly foreign cuisine. And you can get a small plate from between eight to twenty dollars.

Have you been to D.C. lately? I would love to hear your thoughts from your trip.

Luxury for July 4th

630x355 (6)

Unless something happens that I haven’t heard about yet, I’m pretty sure Monday is going to be a pretty normal day for me. I think my family is going to gather at the beginning of next month, and I will be taking some time off tonight..

Anyway, if you are looking for a last minute getaway for July fourth and don’t mind dropping some cash, here are some ideas.

  • Washington D.C. is a great place to visit during this patriotic holiday. There is always a big celebration on the Mall. The Hay-Adams is a lovely five-star hotel where your view of the celebration will only be rivaled by the White House itself. Of course, there are all kinds of things to do in D.C.. Take a tour of the monument. Explore the Smithsonian museum that interests you and your family most.
  • Or maybe you dream of seeing the fireworks on the great Mississippi River. In New Orleans, you are going to find a wonderful hotel called the Windsor Court Hotel. This is also a five-star hotel that has a pool and a nice spa. And the city of New Orleans has many different things you can explore with your family as well.
  • Another option would be to go to Boston itself, where the dream of freedom started in the first place. For great accommodations, you will wat to go to is the Royal Sonesta. This four-star will have great access to the Charles River whether you want to go to the celebration or just watch from your hotel window.

I would love to know your thoughts on this.

Wanna see the Pope?

630x355

It’s Friday, and part of me keeps thinking of things I want to do, but part of me is kind of ready for some weekend fun too.. I’m not sure where the balance is, but I’ll figure it out. It’s time to get some things done.

My Grandpa died this past summer, as most of you know.. But what you may not know is that Grandpa was Catholic. I have also known a lot of other Catholics.. The Catholic church here is very active in our pro life group. And I also know that you don’t necessarily have to be Catholic in order to want to see the Pope. So here are some tips if you are making plans to see the Pope.

  • First, as you can imagine, security is going to be tight at the airport to these cities. If you are flying to one of these cities, you’ll want to plan on staying a couple of days before and a couple of days after.
  • Another way you can avoid some of the craziness is to travel by train instead of by airplane. Amtrak is making preparations for that by increasing the number of people they are going to be able to take to that area during that Time.
  • You will want to keep in mind that some people are looking to make money any way they can. Be very careful when you buy tickets. Some of these events are actually free.
  • And of course, since a lot of people are going to want to come to these events, prices for hotels and other accommodations are going to be higher than normal.

I’d love to hear about your trip if you do go to see the Pope.

Even more spring break trip ideas

630x355 (2)

It’s Monday. I had a nice weekend, but I need to get back to work. That wasn’t really a complaint, I thoroughly enjoy my job, each part of it actually.

But let’s get back to ideas for spring break trips… I know I’ve already talked about Disney parks in this series, but what about Disney cruises? I’ve heard from different people that these cruises are incredible. I’ve heard that the children will love to go to Disney’s programs. You might have to beg your kids to spend time with you, which may or may not be a bad thing. Disney has clubs teens where they can and meet others their age. They have great dining options for the family, they will even take your kids once they finish their meals so you can enjoy yours more… And of course, this is Disney, so you will also get to see characters. They have Broadway style shows, which I hear are cleaner than most cruise lines’ entertainment. You can even enjoy the parks before or after your cruise if you like getting the best of both worlds.

If you have older children, you might want to visit DC. I grew up in North Carolina and Tennessee, ennessee, but my grandparents lived in Virginia. So we used to visit Washington pretty often. There are a ton of monuments. There is the smithsonian, which is a bunch of different museums. Their zoo is also part of the Smithsonian. And the spring is a great time to go because of the cherry blossoms.

Please let me know if you would like help with spring break trips or summer plans. I would be more than happy to help you.

Washington DC

We are going to my sister who lives in Atlanta late Thursday evening, so I’ve decided to go on and work today, and enjoy hanging out with my family on Friday. We are going to be celebrating a couple of family birthdays this weekend, and since one of my favorite things to do is chilling out with my family, I think that is going to give me a better break anyway. I have several things I would really like to do today, so I am going to go on and get started.

I know I have written about my desire to go to Washington DC in the not-too-distant future. I have some personal reasons for wanting to go there. But today, let’s look at some things there are to do in the DC area.. One thing I know of is the Smithsonian. The Smithsonian has more than twenty museums in its network, and all of them are absolutely free. That even includes the DC zoo, I just double checked that to make sure that is right, and it is. There are several history museums [which happen to be my favorite], different art museums I know.. Even before my aunt moved there, my grandparents lived a couple of hours away from DC, and we would go up there for a day trip some summers, so I am somewhat familiar with that area.

Our nation’s capital is pretty easy to walk, we’ve spent a day walking to the different monuments. Driving around in this city is not awful, though parking can be somewhat challenging, particularly if you have a large vehicle. If you want to get the least expensive rates, you will want to go in either late summer or winter.

I’m not sure why, but we’ve never toured the White House or the capitol. I think both would be interesting to see… And there are many theaters with plays going on if that would be something that interests you.

I am going to go on to some other things..
